finish scrappy twirl from Making A Lather

I started this quilt in 2018 and I called it template twirls. I made it using the crazy 6 templates from creative grids as part of an experiment. I was determined to go through my templates, at the time, or get rid of them. I made several quilts or tops at the time, and had so much fun, I kept the templates LOL

This is a great use for all the little bits of strings and crumbs

60 x 70 and the sun was funny for the photo

I quilted all over bubbles and added the binding by machine.

blue ridge beauty finish from Making A Lather

blue ridge beauty is finally a completed quilt. I have tried all year to make this a priority in finishing this huge quilt. It took several days to free motion swirls on my longarm. Binding was delayed because my trusty older bernina that I use for binding, stopped working, and, hubby had to spend a couple of days to uncover the problem. I knew he could do it, and, he did. I made blue ridge beauty my one monthly goal for October...again. And this is my 12th ufo finish for PHD 2022.

98x107

27 yards

It has some great ...

one monthly goal October from Making A Lather

I am going to try making blue ridge beauty quilt my one monthly goal again for October. I really would like to see it done by the end of this year, and October would be better. This a quiltville pattern in her book adventures with leaders and enders. I made mine with shirt fabrics included.

I need to make a monster back and decide on binding. Surely, I can finish it this month. Most of the garden is willing to wait for me to get to it.

However, we do have a new adventure. We found this little bitty shivering ...

fair and square from Making A Lather

Sometimes progress just takes time. A little bit here and there makes a difference over time. I have to remind myself of that often, as I grow impatient. I pressed and trimmed fair and square. And, I cut and added the black inner border. I had hoped to get the final border on the quilt, but, it didn't fit. That will be the next little bit of time I can find. I think it looks great. The end is in sight.

It has been harvest season for our little garden. The tomatoes are starting to ripen and a BLT ...

moving projects from Making A Lather

It is time to say - see you later- to an old friend. I am retiring this project to the the UFO closet. I have enough pieces cut, I think, but, all shirts go well together. I was hoping for 80 blocks and I have 52 finished. I need to concentrate on some "other" languishing projects to get a bit of organization and less chaos. I  want to move some projects out of easy to reach areas and spread out my current projects. I keep misplacing parts and pieces and really need to clean up and assess where I am. So ...

bow tie from Making A Lather

Bow tie blocks were the 2011 quiltville mystery leader/ ender challenge, and Bonnie's first. She did hers with cheddar fabric, I believe. I wanted something a little brighter. At the time, I had a bunch of scraps that were polka dots, and so, it began.  With the 2022 announcement, I realized I didn't have a great finishing success record. I think 2 out of 12. But, I started all of them. I decided to try finishing one this year instead of starting a new one...... so far. It was an easy choice, start with number one. Remembering my ...

One monthly goal for August from Making A Lather

I didn't finish last month's One monthly goal at Elm street quilts. But, never give up - right?  I had the   last quilt a goal for 2 months and still did not finish. I will try a different Ufo that needs finishing, in hopes, I will find renewed motivation to chug along on the finishing. I need to add borders and quilt it.

in the box

This is a Bonnie Hunter pattern from her book scraps and shirttails. It is made mostly from shirt fabrics. My notes are sketchy. I think I started this in 2015 or 2016

try again one monthly goal from Making A Lather

We are going to try this again for my one monthly goal at Elm street quilts. I have filled in the blank spots and squared the EPP for this little handsewn quilt. I want to iron all the edges out ( they are still wrapped around the paper templates), and starch it before I trim it. Then, I will add a border, and quilt it. I used this as my goal for May but, didn't finish it.

fair and square progress from Making A Lather

I was able to go to Friday quilt group and lay fair and square out a bit on the floor. That helped me put the top 4 rows together and start the bottom rows. This has been a puzzle from the beginning. Fair and square is a Bonnie Hunter pattern from her book: scraps and shirttails 2. It has been a UFO since 2019. I like the look of on point settings but, they are challenging for me.

Another of my clematis is blooming. This one is finicky. Last year it didn't bloom. I am glad to see it ...

maple leaves from Making A Lather

I am ready for the last row for this quilt. I have a hodge podge of blocks that I want to sew, making sure the mix is what I want. This is one of my 5 quilts projects, but, I am tired of seeing it on the list.

I had hoped to make 10 rows, but the last row would all be aqua. sigh...

I made it to this point this week

I canned saurkraut the old fashioned way this week.  I found the idea on whipperwill holler youtube. They won't be ready for 4 - 6 weeks. We will ...

goal: finish tiger quilt from Making A Lather

My one monthly goal for June is to finish tiger, tiger. Every good quilt story starts with "I had a bag of scraps" And this is no exception. I had seen Beth's improv quilt on YouTube and had it swirling in my head, when another quilter gifted me a bag of scraps. I found the vintage tiger embroidery at a thrift store some time ago and wanted to do something with it. I made the goal to use only the bag of scraps and use it with the tiger. for a donation quilt.

It was always my intention to ...

One monthly goal fail from Making A Lather

I had as my May one monthly goal, an older ufo. I have no idea how to finish this little quilt. I have procrastinated and procrastinated. That is why I am making it my one monthly goal or I will never see this finished.

Well, I did not finish. The 26th of May I said to myself - oops time is up. So, I did sew one piece to the side, and then, wondered why it had taken so long. sigh...

Maybe now that the thread is cut and the needle is threaded I can make a little progress on it ...

May one monthly goal from Making A Lather

I have no idea how to finish this little quilt. I have procrastinated and procrastinated. That is why I am making it my one monthly goal or I will never see this finished. Every time I think about it, the sun wasn't in the right place, or the wind was all wrong for me to do it. I have been waiting for the perfect conditions and they aren't going to happen. I started this English paper piecing project on an airplane going to and from  visiting my daughter. It has been awhile.

It looks like I need to ...

one monthly goal finish from Making A Lather

I have a finish for April's one monthly goal at elm street quilts. Bricks in  the brickyard is quilted and bound. I started it in 2012. Bricks in the barnyard is found in Bonnie Hunter's Book- scraps and shirt tails 2 . I decided to use it as part of my 5 quilts ufo list in September 2021. At that time, the blocks were in 6 horizontal sections. I sewed the rows and added an inner and outer border and it was ready for the quilt vault.

I drew the number for quilting and finishing it this month. And ...

every which way top from Making A Lather

I used a random number generator to add this to my 5 quilt list, after finishing an older UFO. I was lucky that this quilt was just missing borders. It was a quick finish to a top. I found a backing in the stash and made binding. And, now, it is ready for the "to be quilted" vault. I think it is very cute. I do remember the fabric came from Michaels craft store a few years ago.

This is an older ufo called 'every which way' by gigis thimble that I started in 2016.

Our youngest turned 27 and ...

maple leaf block from Making A Lather

I have 5 quilts that I concentrate on making progress, but, I had an open sew last month, and, I felt like I needed something more to work on for the whole day. I grabbed this old UFO box and took it with me. The older I get, the more every UFO box is a mystery. I counted the blocks, ironed the sashing fabric, did the math, and cut the strips I would need for this quilt. I plan on using this as my portable project to take when I am away sewing. Otherwise, the sashing will be a little ...

April one monthly goal from Making A Lather

Bricks in the barnyard is found in Bonnie Hunter's Book- scraps and shirt tails 2.  I started it in 2012 using scraps. Last year, I was working on my UFO list and dug it out again to see what it needed. It was an ufo Sept 2021 and a top Oct 2021. I still needed to add borders. I decided on a scrappy piano key border.

It is time to quilt and bind this quilt for my one monthly goal for April.

baskets ufo top from Making A Lather

This is One of the 5 quilts I am working to finish

It was a buck a block from a store in Indy in 2014. I loved the colors and fabrics so much so that I bought the finishing kit, too. So, the monthly blocks were just the baskets. I am not sure why it has been an Ufo for so long, but, it needs finishing. I pressed and trimmed, and added the inner borders, and the outer border.

It is officially a top with a back and binding ready for the "to be quilted" closet. I need to change ...

baby flannel quilt finish from Making A Lather

I have a jelly roll finish for a child. it was a flannel  jelly roll I found on sale. I used 20 for the inside portion. I wanted it a bit larger so I added borders. I made this on the treadle in 2020

It is 47 x 66. I used an all over stipple for the quilting.

I used a dark blue flannel for the back and a light weight batting  since it is flannel.

I machine sewed the binding. I wish I had cut it larger, there is a lot of bulk with flannel. I hope someone will ...
